Montgomery is a village
located in both Kane and Kendall Counties in Illinois. In 1835, Daniel S. Gray
from Montgomery County, New York went to visit his brother who had relocated to
a farm now within the limits of Kendall
County. He immediately planned to settle there, and in 1836 constructed the
area's first wooden house for his family. Once called "Graystown,"
the area soon became known as Montgomery due to the large number of settlers
who arrived from the county in New York.
