Winfield is a
village located in DuPage County, Illinois. Originally named Gary's Mill when
it was settled in the 1830s, a large German immigrant population changed the name
of the village to Fredericksburg. Before the turn of the 20th century,
residents petitioned to have the village renamed Winfield, after General
Winfield Scott. Winfield is home to Central
DuPage Hospital, one of the largest hospitals in the Chicago-area suburbs.
